Sports team bonding activities with better views (and fewer bruises)

A few laughs, a bit of competition, and a stretch of trail that beats any training pitch.

Sport team bonding outings that feel like a reward

You train hard, win (or lose) together, and spend half your life in dressing rooms. A day on the Waterford Greenway is your chance to swap muddy boots for smooth trails, stretch the legs, and unwind as a group. Whether it’s a pre-season meet-up, post-championship wind-down, or simply an excuse to spend time together, cycling along the Greenway brings everyone back to basics: movement, connection, and a good feed at the end.

A group of cyclists ride together along a scenic countryside Greenway trail, enjoying an active outdoor adventure surrounded by rolling hills and woodland.

Why the Greenway works so well for team days out

It’s not just the scenery (though that helps). The Greenway gives sports clubs the headspace, bonding, and bit of banter that can get lost mid-season.

Active recovery made fun

Flat paths, open air, and no one barking orders. Perfect for light training days or end-of-season wind-downs.

Builds team spirit

Laughs, fresh air, and shared challenges – a great way to bring your team closer together.

Set the pace your way

Longer routes if you want to make it a workout; shorter spins if you’re out for the craic. The Greenway fits whatever kind of day you want for your team.

Waterford Greenway routes sports clubs rave about

Choose your start point (Waterford, Kilmacthomas, or Dungarvan) and make a day of it. Here are a few team favourites:

Kilmacthomas Dungarvan

An all-round classic. A bit of distance, a bit of challenge, and a sea breeze to top it off. Grab lunch or a pint in Dungarvan before heading back.

Kilmacthomas Durrow Tunnel (and back)

Ideal for smaller groups or light training days. Cruise across the viaduct, grab your team photo at the tunnel, and stop for coffee at Coach House Coffee before looping back.

Get your team out on the trail

We’ll make sure everything’s set up; you just bring the team spirit.

Book online

Pick your date, your starting point, and how many bikes you’ll need (standard or electric).

We get you sorted

We’ll size everyone up, sort the helmets, and give you route ideas, including the best stops for food or pints.

Enjoy your day

Cycle, chat, stop for a few team selfies, and call it cross-training if you like.

Great Service Hired bikes here, myself wife and 4 young kids (youngest was in a trailor buggy off my bike). Picked up the bikes in Dungarvan and cycled to Kilmacthomas for the drop off. Just before getting as far as Kilmacthomas my wife had an accident (she wasn’t hurt) but the bike wheel buckled and was impossible to cycle. We rang the phone number on the bike. The guy in Kilmacthomas got our location, drove out and cycled down a section of the greenway from the public road to meet us. Such great service. He swapped bikes and took my wife’s broken one back with him. All in the space of 20 minutes or so from when we rang. Really excellent service and I can highly recommend this company.

Waterford Greenway Bike Hire We rented the bikes in Waterford and dropped them back in Dungarvan. The two guys in Waterford are amazing. Watching how they helped international tourists so well was great to see. The two lads are great ambassadors for their city, and their country.

No hassle I had a wonderful experience using this company to rent an ebike to ride on the Waterford Greenway. I knew the bike had to be returned by 6:00 pm (the reservation clearly states the time) but I also knew I wasn’t going to keep it all day. David was most helpful in Waterford. He explained the ebike to me as well as how to stay on the Greenway without getting on the road. He also took the time to explain stops along the way. The only negative thing I would say is that there wasn’t an option to not rent for the entire day, but the freedom of being on the Greenway with a bike was worth it. I would definitely use this company again.

Lovely route, disappointing service We hired bikes here on a recent trip to Waterford and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. We weren’t given any locks, and more frustratingly, we weren’t told that the Waterford drop-off closed at 6pm, quite early given how late it stays bright in summer. When we flagged this at the halfway point, the owner was unhelpful and fairly dismissive, and we ended up stranded waiting for a bus. The greenway itself is lovely, but we wouldn’t use this company again.

Great Cycle Route, Very Poor Bike Hire Experience The staff in Waterford were very pleasant and helpful when we collected the bikes. However, at no point were we told that the bikes had to be returned to Dungarvan by 6pm. The route is over 40km and the weather that day was wet, so we took our time, stopping for coffee in Kilmeaden and later for lunch halfway along the route — exactly the kind of leisurely experience the Greenway is supposed to offer. As we were setting off again after lunch, a man approached us and abruptly asked, “Dungarvan?” At first we had no idea who he was, but quickly realised he was the owner of the bike hire company, apparently keeping watch for his bikes along the route. He informed us, with no apology and very little sympathy, that there was no way we would make it to Dungarvan by the 6pm return deadline as it was already after 4pm. This was the first time we had heard anything about this deadline. There was no effort to help us find another solution, no acknowledgment that we had never been informed of the return time — just an immediate suggestion that we call a taxi company he knew and pay to get back. It gave the impression that this was far from an unusual situation. We ended up having to spend €60 on a taxi back to Dungarvan. Perhaps we should have thought to ask about return times, but the real issue was the complete lack of communication beforehand and the dismissive, almost rehearsed way the situation was handled. Later that evening we met a large stag group in Dungarvan who had also rented from this company. They told us they were treated badly for arriving back at 6:15pm despite being a large paying group. Unfortunately, this company seems to have little competition in the area, and it shows in the customer service. If you’re planning to cycle the Greenway, either bring your own bikes or make absolutely sure you ask detailed questions about return deadlines before setting off. The Greenway itself is fantastic. This company’s customer service is not.

Great bike great views coming back soon We were in Ireland for a wedding. Had free time so we checked out Waterford and found the greenway bike rental … WOW!! What a treat miles and miles of no cars, go at your own pace ,amazing sights that one would never see traveling by car. The 3 locations were great … as stop points and a cafe in the middle one. Super friendly and swapped out a bike that my bf sort of broke. And as a bonus one of the locations has realty cute workers 🤫 I won’t tell. But will get a bike from there when I come back with my sisters.

Ebike from Waterford to Dungarvan. I rented an ebike (first time) from Waterford to Dungarvan. I walked up on the off chance and got one. The service was simple but excellent. The route was explained, the bike was explained and I was given a local number if there were any issues. The route is entirely off road and of a good tarmac standard. I easilly completed it within four hours and stopped for coffee on the way at Kilmacthomas. There is an hourly bus from Dungarvan back which takes an hour and costs around five euro – a real bargain. I strongly recommend this route. Beautiful scenery on an easy route.

Great day with the family We had su h a great day. It was a bit more difficult than we thought it would be, having a 9 year old with us. The collection and drop off and use of the bikes were perfect. Took us 5 hours with a few breaks and stopping for lunch. Great experience.
